Judith Part Time Professional Self Taught

Biography

As a child Judith was always drawing and excelled in art at school. With an art A-level under her belt, she considered applying for art school but instead opted to study languages, which led to a career in translation. Now, 30 years down the line, she divides her work time between translation and art. Although largely self-taught, she has perfected her skills in watercolour painting with various teachers. For ten years Judith lived in southern France where she developed a passion for sketching in the villages and countryside of the Languedoc. In 2014 she returned to her native north-west England where she is inspired by the rugged moorland landscapes, mills and weaver’s cottages of Saddleworth, contrasted with the architecture and urban environment of Greater Manchester. The strength of her paintings lies in three elements: strong composition, a harmonious palette and a sense of depth and mood conveyed through the way she captures the light. Subjects range from rural landscapes, houses, gardens and village scenes to city streets and industrial buildings. In the past five years, Judith has received a number of commissions for house portraits from clients in France, the Netherlands, Australia and the UK.

Judith has been exemplary in both her delivery and communication. She has taken us through the whole process step-by-step and produced a wonderful water colour of our villa in Portugal. Thank you Judith. We shall definitely be back in touch soon with another commission! Kate

Judith recently completed a lovely watercolour of the house that I grew up in. She rendered an instantly recognisable and evocative composition with just the right balance of detail. Judith met a relatively tight deadline and was very good about checking details and preferences as she worked, which included providing me with a sketch before she started painting and then letting me see the work in progress. I had been a little apprehensive that it would be difficult to capture the look and feel of the house working only from photographs, but Judith's work suffered no such limitations. Highly recommended.

I'm so thrilled with the painting we received from Judith. It was a watercolour painting of our wedding day so something very personal and special to us. Judith was great at communication and is a really talented artist. The painting came out fantastic, has a gorgeous frame and was delivered in plenty of time for our anniversary. Thanks again for everything! Sarah and Tony

Very pleased with the painting and the process, Judith kept us well informed and suggested lots of really good ideas. We are delighted with the final framed painting.
