Stuart Full Time Professional

Biography

Like many artists Stuart started out as a graphic designer (Newcastle Polytechnic back in the day) and like many graphic designers, once he left college he wanted to do anything but be a graphic designer. So, covering a few years, he was foreman on a roadworks (a job given to him on site because he had been to college - a complete disaster). A carpet salesman. A magazine journalist and eventually a magazine editor. For a very brief period he was even a doorman at a Liverpool nightclub (He was the mouth at the front of door, the big fellas behind were the muscle). Eventually, working for other people became a drag and Stuart decided in 1985 to go back to his roots and became a graphic designer and quite a good one too. However, no matter how good you are, you can't outrun time and age began catching up. Clients began to expect their designers to be about twelve and commissions became fewer and fewer (surely this old geezer can't work a computer never mind design a web site). So, in 2008 Stuart decided to become a full time artist, two days after his life changing decision, Northern Rock collapsed and all the money had gone and not just his. However he persevered and began selling portraits, pet portraits, still lifes etc then he discovered that he could really draw with that simplest of tools, the pencil. Apart from commissions, Stuart spends most of his time drawing realist pencil drawings. His favourite subjects are people in work surroundings, groups of people and motor bikes (He doesn't have a bike, hasn't had one since college, won't ride one, would never be a pillion passenger, doesn't even want a free bike but loves drawing them).
