This is a portrait on a larger scale of the daughter of an artist friend. Painted from a photograph, I loved this image from the moment I saw it. I wanted to capture the innocence and sense of wonder of a four year old - something about the outstretched fingers is so evocative here. The play of sunlight on the girl's hair is also important for me as an artist and is something I always find inspiration in.
