This painting of a heron diving into a dark pool of water with the reflections of the rushes and plants on the riverbank was inspired by the beautiful birds near where I live. I decided to incorporate gold paint into the design and use very loose almost impressionistic brush strokes in this metallic paint for the foliage. This gives the painting an almost Japanese feel to it, with its simplicity yet depth of colour. The gold shines differently at varying angles so gives a wonderful experience.
