Example of quick portrait study from life using charcoal & conte on paper. The second photo shows the model sitting for me. The 30 minute study was carried out in the open air as a demonstration. A quick study like this in the first stage of a portrait commission enables me to work out composition and tonal values and enables clients to agree on composition before choosing colours and committing to executing the final painting.
