I painted this portrait from sketches that I did at my life drawing group. The young woman was an ideal model, she had the most beautiful translucent skin and she sat so still, seeming to go into an almost trance like state, which made it easy for me to draw her. I painted her on a black ground to try and enhance her lovely skin tone and the quiet air of calm that she had.
